Competition Preparation
Young piano players also have the opportunity to perform in masterclasses and workshops. These are a useful rehearsal for a competition or exam. Alison encourages her students to perform regularly so that consistent improvement is maintained. For some of her students the competitions are a substitute for exams- particularly if they are being fast tracked. With regard to Diploma (a qualification in concert performance) it is an undeniable advantage to rehearse the program under pressure in a competitive environment.
The long term goal is a determining factor. Where young students are concerned, Alison organizes performances in her studio before sending them to a competition. If they begin competing or performing at six or seven years old they learn to deal with nerves and gain poise on stage at an earlier age.
